Our Treatment Solution Gets EPA "Designed for the Environment" Approval

October 29, 2010 EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) DFE Scientific Team announces partnership and label approval of the new proprietary “green” mold cleaning solution MTR94® used exclusively by local firm American Mold Experts.

EPA allows safer products to carry the Design for the Environment (DfE) label. This mark enables consumers to quickly identify and choose products that can help protect the environment and are safer for families.

When you see the DfE logo on a product it means that the DfE scientific review team has screened each ingredient for potential human health and environmental effects and that—based on currently available information, EPA predictive models, and expert judgment—the product contains only those ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class.

Product manufacturers who become DfE partners, and earn the right to display the DfE logo on recognized products, have invested heavily in research, development and reformulation to ensure that their ingredients and finished product line up on the green end of the health and environmental spectrum while maintaining or improving product performance.

American Mold Experts President, Julie Hurst commented, “We have superior results in the field using our MTR94® to clean mold. Clearance testing confirms our results which goes along with our 100% Money Back Guarantee. We are proud to have passed the rigorous screening process.” American Mold Experts services Indiana and parts of Ohio.

16 Signs That You Need Mold Testing in Your Home

There are 16 signs that you need mold testing in your home. Mold that produces and releases dangerous toxins into the air can affect a family's health. Many times we see only one family member affected. There are many things to look for if someone in your home is being affected by these toxins.

Why is Mold Testing Necessary?
Testing for mold is important because mold spores can cause or aggravate many illnesses, including asthma and allergies. Some molds can cause very serious lung infections.

When should Testing Take Place?
Mold testing should be done if anyone in the household is feeling effects associated with fungal contamination. Some symptoms may include:
  1. headaches
  2. dizziness
  3. difficulty paying attention
  4. and lack of concentration.
If you see any of these signs please give us a call for an inspection because American Mold Experts is based on the belief that your safety and security comes first. American Mold Experts is focused on providing high quality inspection, mold testing, results, cures and restoration for various types of mold including toxic black mold – we will do everything we can to meet your expectations when it comes to mold removal in your home or business.

What should I Look for?

The following are signs that mold could be growing in your home and needs to be eradicated:

1. High humidity – areas that are prone to high levels of humidity retain moisture for longer amounts of time, fostering mold growth.
2. Pipe or water leaks – surfaces that are consistently wet provide a home for mold, and leaks can be difficult to detect.
3. Flooding – large scale water damage to a home is very conducive to mold growth.
4. Musty, moldy odors – odors are a good indication that mold is present.
5. Increased respiratory problems or allergies – a Mayo Clinic study, completed in 1999, found that most chronic sinus problems were caused by mold in the home.
6. Symptoms of toxic poisoning – signs that family members are being affected include dizziness, headaches, and difficulty concentrating and maintaining an attention span.
7. Leaky Roof – the attic will show signs of water damage.
8. Damp basement or crawlspace – moisture in dark environments encourages mold growth.
9. Rusting or condensation – can be signs of a leak.
10. Discoloration or water stains on walls – water stains will indicate locations of leaks, while
discolored spots may indicate locations of mold.
11. Peeling paint – the mold could have had a chance to grow before the wall was painted, causing the current peeling.
12. Warped wood – this is a sign that moisture is present in sufficient levels to allow mold to grow.
13. Growth of mold in bathroom tile areas – this is a very good indication that mold is growing in other areas of the house.
14. Visible mold growth – indicates a strong presence of mold elsewhere in the house.
15. Poor ventilation – if moisture from the home, including appliances, isn’t vented, it can facilitate mold growth.
16. Wet materials inside the house – any areas of carpet or flooring that are wet frequently can also house mold.

While being unsightly and sometimes difficult to clean, mold should be removed from the home. It causes damage to the home itself, but the most intense effects are upon humans. Breathing mold spores can be very dangerous, especially for the very young or those who are advanced in years or adults with compromised immune systems. If you locate any of these signs in your home, it's time to conduct testing for mold to see how extensive the problem has grown.

Why Hire American Mold Experts?

“I have had mold allergies and asthma since I was a child.  It has been well controlled for years on medication.  But recently after experiencing a leak in our bathroom plumbing we discovered mold in our bathroom and my daughter’s bedroom closet.

Night after night my 3 yr old daughter was experiencing a hacking cough that disturbed her sleep.  And I ended up in the hospital with an asthma attack when I was seven months pregnant.  I told my physician we were experiencing mold at home and he ran a mold sensitive panel (blood test) which came back showing extremely high mold counts.

American Mold Experts were called in for remediation and we only had to be out of the house several hours.  The next day I was feeling so much better and I moved my daughter back into her room.  She is sleeping soundly at night with no more night coughing and I have had no more asthma problems!

It’s incredible the change in how much better we are feeling thanks to American Mold Experts

Tips for a Safe Home

To have an Eco-healthy home, we want to provide a few tips for you so that you can ensure a wonderful summer season in your home.

Preventing Mold Growth
•Site Survey: Make sure draining gutters and downspouts point away from the foundation, and ensure that automatic lawn sprinklers do not point toward building walls.
•Check Exterior Siding & Bricks: if there are any cracks wider than 1/16 inch, seal them with clear silicone to prevent water from entering your home during the winter. Protect your home exterior by fixing cracks during warm months.
•Laundry Rooms: Any moisture generating appliances, such as washers and dryers should be vented to the outside.
•Bathrooms: Install a fan in the bathroom to allow venting and ensure that you use a nylon shower curtain (instead of vinyl).
•HVAC: Change your filter at the start of summer season and on a regular schedule. Inspect interior duct linings for signs of moisture or mold growth. Keep drip pans clean and unobstructed.
•Kitchen: Review your under appliance drip pan to remove excess water. And clean to discourage mold growth.
•Basement: Fix any issues with standing water and use a dehumidifier if necessary. Use non-porous carpeting. And ensure that you use paperless drywall during a finished basement renovation.
•Dehumidifiers: make sure that your dehumidifier pumps to the outside or change the storage tank daily.
•Purchase several Humidity Meters. These can be inexpensive ($8 at Wal-Mart in the same department as temperature thermometers). Place throughout the house and monitor. The readings should be less than 60% to prevent mold. Even without a leak mold spores can extract moisture from the air to grow and multiply.

American Mold Experts performs Inspections with Licensed Inspectors ONLY so call us today if you suspect you may have a problem.

American Mold Uses a Natural Enzyme to Clean Mold

Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions. If you leave a blob of protein in a Petri dish, will it just break down to the amino acids? No. But add enzymes. Enzymes are the biological substance (proteins) that act as catalysts and help complex reactions occur everywhere in life.

When you go home at night and the door is locked, can it open itself? No. You need a key that is just the right shape to fit in that lock. Otherwise, you're stuck in the cold. Enzymes work in a similar way (locks and keys). Enzymes complete very specific jobs and do nothing else. They are very specific locks and the compounds they work with are the special keys. In the same way there are door keys, car keys, and bike-lock keys, there are enzymes for neutral cells, intestinal cells, and your saliva.

There are four steps in the process of an enzyme working.
  1. An enzyme and a substrate are in the same area. The substrate is the biological molecule that the enzyme will attack.
  2. The enzyme grabs onto the substrate with a special area called the active site. The active site is a specially shaped area of the enzyme that fits around the substrate. The active site is the keyhole of the lock.
  3. A process called catalysis happens. Catalysis is when the substrate is changed. It could be broken down or combined with another molecule to make something new.
  4. The enzyme lets go. When the enzyme lets go, it returns to normal, ready to do another reaction. The substrate is no longer the same.
There are many factors that can affect enzyme activity, including temperature, activators, PH levels, and inhibitors. This is how the enzyme cleans the mold from your home.

Household Spray Cause an Increase in Asthma

Article we feel is worth sharing:
Tuesday, June 8, 2010
http://living.oneindia.in/health/wellbeing/2010/household-cleaning-sprays-cause-asthma-080610.html

A leading health expert Jan Paul Zock, from Centre of Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona said, the use of household cleaning sprays could spread to a rise in cases of asthma.

Chemicals like chlorine bleach, disinfectants and other cleaning agents can increase asthma and worsen the existing symptoms.  He particularly warned that the professional cleaners and health workers who use products in hospitals are particularly vulnerable.

Zock said that through experiments and studies higher rates of asthma had found among caretakers, cleaners, housekeepers and nurses .The expert said, people inhaling bleach, ammonia, decalcifiers, acids, solvents and stain removers more than a week are linked to a 20 per cent rise in asthma or wheezing. Frequent usage of these cleaning agents will be at more risk than those who use them for longer durations. The strength of a product, in addition to room ventilation, also affect the risk.

The expert said that further studies should be done on people's exposure at home, which can be difficult to track.

He said many people at home could be at risk. Thus he quotes saying, "The number of people at risk is very large, We need to consider the ubiquitous use of cleaning products at home.”

More reasons to never use bleach for mold clean-up.  See our Bleach article on our website for more information.

Here are a few questions that we hear often when visit a client:

What is your mold disintegrating Enzyme & Why is it better?
Our special formula is called MTR94. It isn't a chemical at all, but a naturally occurring enzyme formula which breaks down and cleans mold. This hungry little enzyme does all the work for you and doesn't use any harmful chemicals or toxins to do its job. It is an environmentally-friendly, green solution, to mold removal.

Additionally our process is NON-Destructive Remediation , no hazardous chemicals released in your home, 100% Money-Back Guarantee, One-Year Guarantee, save over 50% as compared to traditional methods, quick Process (most jobs take only 1 day) and non-toxic and biodegradable cleaning process (guaranteed safe).

Our researcher describes the enzyme effectiveness as quite natural.  In fact is derived from plants.  For thousands of years plants in the woods have had to live in the same space as mold.  Mold function in the wild is to help biodegrade materials to recycle.  Yet plants had to survive and live right next to the mold and built up it's own natural defense to survive against mold.  So it make sense that the same biological process that keep the mold from destroying healthy plants is now the same material we use to cleanse your home.

Are there any after effects from the cleaning?

What we typically see is our clients telling us how much better they feel after the treatment. Many times we hear of symptoms that have cleared that they never associated with the mold exposure. One gal reported that her 3 year old daughter no longer had her sleep disturbed by a chronic cough she once had.

Further MTR94 leaves behind an invisible, organic-based "barrier" on a surface area. This microbial coating helps to retard future mold growth. If the area experiences reoccurring moisture exposures, the coating may need to be reapplied. Also, paint adheres to the barrier so you won't have any difficulty if you choose to repaint later.

And remember, we offer a Money Back Guarantee

Myth & Reality Concerning Mold

“I see mold but my mold test came back at low levels, so it must not be mold and I don’t have a problem.”

Two things we typically find in this circumstance.  One is because the mold colony has not been disturbed, in other words no one has tried to clean it.  This occurs in attics and crawl spaces and sometimes even in basements.  The colony just continued to grow silently feeding off the wood or drywall.  Mold when disturbed by cleaning or someone touching triggers the colony to send out thousands of spores into the air in an effort to survive.  This Mother Nature response is similar to when a child or dog runs through the field of flowers and disperses the pollen from a flower into the air.

Secondly, mold actually has a cycle similar to other plants’ pollination cycle.  So as mold matures it will send off more spores to continue and spread the colony but that does not occur daily and has a maturation process.  If testing occurs during a dormant cycle then the counts may read low.  That is why we often use a swab to capture what looks like a mold colony and send to the lab to verify.

The moral of the story... if you suspect mold you may need to call in an expert .

Don't mess around with Mold, it could be Aspergillosis

Aspergillosis is an infection, growth, or allergic response due to the Aspergillus fungus.

Causes
Aspergillosis is caused by a fungus (Aspergillus), which is commonly found growing on dead leaves, stored grain, compost piles, or in other decaying vegetation. It can also be found on marijuana.  Although most people are frequently exposed to aspergillus, infections caused by the fungus rarely occur in people with a normal immune system. The rare infections caused by aspergillus include pneumonia and fungus ball (aspergilloma). There are several forms of aspergillosis:

Pulmonary aspergillosis - allergic bronchopulmonary type -- is an allergic reaction to the fungus that usually develops in people who already have lung problems (such as asthma or cystic fibrosis).

Aspergilloma -- is a growth (fungus ball) that develops in an area of previous lung disease or lung scarring
(such as tuberculosis or lung abscess).

Pulmonary aspergillosis - invasive type -- is a serious infection with pneumonia that can spread to other parts of the body. This infection occurs almost exclusively in people with weakened immune systems due to cancer, AIDS, leukemia, organ transplantation, chemotherapy, or other conditions or medications that lower the number of normal white blood cells or weaken the immune system.

With so many kinds of mold you don't want to take a chance  ~~ "Restoring Comfort, Health & Confidence", The Natural Way with American Mold Experts.

Do You Have Questions about Mold & Mold Removal?

Questions like this are answered on our faq website page:
WHAT IS “FOGGING” AND WHY IS IT BETTER?

We combine cleaning with fogging for the most thorough treatment. We utilize commercial grade professional fogging equipment. This equipment allows our unique formulation to disburse in molecules small enough to reach into electrical receptacles, inside walls and penetrate porous surfaces such as carpet, and ceiling tiles. It goes the same places that the mold spores floating in the air contaminating your home. For this reason you get a much more through process versus trying to scrub all surfaces with a chemical fungicide or biocide without missing a spot. Missed treatment areas allow the microscopic mold spores to remain behind to mature on another day when conditions are right.

Health Issues - After Remediation This Family is Healthy Again

For the past several months, my family had been sick with sinus and respiratory problems.  Our six year old daughter had ear and sinus infections repeatedly.   Everyone was on one antibiotic after another and all 3 of us had been to see an ENT Specialist.   Our new puppy even had runny draining eyes.  Putting all those things together, I felt there was a possibility we were all being exposed to something that was making us sick.  I found American Mold Experts via the internet.  I called late on a Saturday afternoon and I was surprised when someone actually answered the phone.  I explained our situation and American Mold Experts was at our house on Monday evening (which was the time that was convenient for us).

During the inspection, American Mold Expert’s found slight mold in the basement on an upstairs floor joist.  For just a few hundred dollars we could have an air sample done to validate the quality of our air within the home.  We felt it was a small price to pay for peace of mind… More

American Mold Experts is certified in Residential & Commercial Inspection and Remeditation and want to make sure when it comes to keeping you and your family safe you have some great tips, here is some vital information on keeping your your Summer Home, New Home or Existing Home safe.

Maintenance List
There are many things on the maintenance list and given the damp weather this year; many homeowners are reporting mold related issues. Plus, with the high pollen count and allergens, we are also hearing more about bouts of wheezing and sneezing.

Tips for a Safe Home:

These can be inexpensive ($8 at Wal*Mart in the same department as temperature thermometers).  Place throughout the house and monitor.  The readings should be less than 60% to prevent mold.  Even without a leak mold spores can extract moisture from the air to grow and multiply.

Honest Business Practices with American Mold Experts

Hear from the people that have called us for quotes and/or remediation in their homes, here is one:

We had received a quote from another contractor to remediate what we believed was mold in our basement. We asked American to also give us a quote. American tested the suspected area first and was able to confirm it was not mold but dirt. We were very happy that their first goal was to identify the problem rather then just sell us the services.

The Link Between Black Mold And Pregnancy

11 Mar 2010 Posted by:birthuse in: Baby Health

Humans and mold have lived together since the very beginning, but mold has become a big health issue only recently. So many cases of toxic mold poisoning have come to light recently that people can’t help but be concerned. Because this concern is so new, we have only just begun studying the effects of black mold and pregnancy. There isn’t much real evidence, but doctors are very concerned about how exposure to black mold during pregnancy can affect babies.

Black Mold and Birth Defects
There are countless stories of women being exposed to mold during pregnancy and suffering miscarriage or birth defects. However, there is not yet any solid hard scientific evidence that exposure to mold directly causes birth defects. Studies with animals have shown that there is a definite link between black mold and pregnancy, but animals are different than humans, so the results are somewhat inconclusive. Still, most doctors assume that there is some connection, and that pregnant women should be careful about exposure. More....

Analysis summary of the effectiveness of MTR94 against bacteria and common mold

The enzyme, MTR94, was tested to determine its antimicrobial efficacy against a mixture of three common fungi and two common bacteria. Minimum Lethal Concentration (MLC) testing was the method used to determine the minimum concentration of enzyme required to kill the test microorganisms. MTR94 was found to be effective at killing the mixture of fungi and bacteria tested.

Procedure: All testing was performed in triplicate. The mean of the three results was considered the efficacy for that treatment. All microorganisms used were active cultures. For the first test, spores of Aspergillus "iger, Penicillin decumbens and Stachybotrys chartarum (three common species of fungi) were• mixed in sterile phosphate buffer to get a final concentration of 105 cfu/mL. Similarly, for the second and third tests, standard inoculums of E. coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aUfeUS (MRSA) were prepared to get a final concentration of 105 cfulmL.  More...
